Whether intentional or not, Hollywood movies often offer new insights into our old stories. Starting next Sunday, Greg Garrett will begin a new series based on his acclaimed book The Gospel According to Hollywood. In each class, Greg will discuss what modern-day Hollywood films can teach us about spiritual themes.
July 20: Faith and Belief, Movies: Signs and Stranger than Fiction
July 27: Good and Evil, Movies: Magnolia and The Bourne Ultimatum
August 3: Peace and Justice, Movies: Crash and Iron Man
Greg is an award-winning professor at Baylor University, Writer in Residence at the Seminary of the Southwest, and a frequent speaker, preacher, teacher, and retreat leader across the US and overseas. For those who would like to read along, copies of The Gospel According to Hollywood are available in the BookShop. Greg will be signing copies of his book on August 3 in the BookShop from 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m.

Singing old hymns and learning new ones, Gospel Music Night was a hit!
We are currently printing name tags for parishioners who have lost their name tag or those who never had one! It’s a great way to get to know those around you. Please email your first and last name and whether you regularly attend service in the Historic Sanctuary or in Bethell Hall to . Please indicate it is for a new name tag. All name tags are on holders on the third floor near the worship spaces.
Join the Rev. Mary Vano for six classes with a new discussion topic each week. The class is open to those who are new to the Christian faith, new to the Church or those just wanting to refresh their knowledge. The topic for July 27 is “The Episcopal Church”. This class meets from 10:25-11:10 a.m. in the Vestry Conference Room on the second floor.
Sunday Breakfast Chefs are needed! Positions are available for our Sunday Cook teams. Each team works once every five weeks 7-11 a.m. This is a great ministry to have fun, serve others and meet new people! To volunteer, .
For the last several months, the Entourage, Austin’s homeless Street Soccer team, has been preparing for their first tournament game by practicing in St. David’s Episcopal Church’s gym. The team will compete in a soccer tournament for homeless people in Washington, DC with all tournament participants competing for positions on a Street Soccer team that will play in the Homeless World Cup in early December in Australia.
