St. David's and St. James Host Free Book Fair at Norman-Sims Elementary

Our joyful “Free Book Fair” during Back-to-School Night at Norman-Sims Elementary was made possible because of the generosity of many sweet souls. In early June, a retiring reading teacher donated a classroom full of books to St. David’s. Community Engagement volunteers Staci Hubbard and Ann Jinkins delivered this carload of books to our church. Our Wednesday evening volunteers sorted and organized the more than 800 books into movable boxes. Last week, in preparation for the book fair, this same group put together special bookmark packets as reading gifts for children as incentives.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, volunteers from St. David’s joined forces with St. James’ Freedom School to give away the books and gifts to kids and their families. It was beautiful to watch children and parents pick out books that they could take home and enjoy together. And for us, it was a chance to share a little love with our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who helped!
