The food ministry at St. David’s began in 1997, when then Rector Jim Bethell and staff envisioned a way to facilitate people getting to church on Sunday mornings and to programs on Wednesday evenings. The food ministry provided breakfast each Sunday and dinner on Wednesday evenings, removing one obstacle. Chef Ray was hired in 2000 to help expand the ministry to include foodservice for parish events, but outside community and business groups as well. The ministry has grown to become Cafe Divine, the kitchen and parish event operation; and The Space at St. David’s entity, to working within the downtown community and the greater Austin area providing a wide range of catering and meeting services.
Café Divine is currently serving Sunday Breakfast, Wednesday Dinner, and Thursday Public Lunch every Thursday with periodic closures for festivals and events. The Space at St. David’s hosts various groups on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. The Space is currently taking requests for room and meeting spaces.
