About the Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre

This year’s Eckhardt speaker, the Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre, is a recognized international Fulbright scholar, celebrated author, and documentarian. Some of his books include Doing Christian Ethics from the Margins and Decolonizing Christianity.
Dr. De La Torre has served as the elected 2012 President of the Society of Christian Ethics and the Executive Officer for the Society of Race, Ethnicity and Religion (2012-2017). He has taught courses at the Cuernavaca Center for Intercultural Dialogue on Development (Mexico), Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (Indonesia), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Johannes Gutenberg University (Germany).
Starting Saturday, Feb. 1, Dr. De La Torre will explore what it means to see Jesus through the lens of Immigration and screen a portion of his documentary Trails of Hope and Terror. Attendees are invited to join Dr. De La Torre for dinner after his lecture. Please register to reserve your plate.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Rev. De La Torre will lecture at 10 a.m. and preach in worship at 9 and 11:15 a.m.
About the Eckhardt Lecture Series

The Eckhardt Lecture Series was named in memory of Dr. James W. Eckhardt for his dedicated Christian ministry to the medical profession. This annual preaching/teaching event features a Biblical presentation of the Scriptures according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is offered without cost to the parishioners of St. David’s and the greater Austin community.
