From May 21 to May 28, 2025, the Rev. Chuck Treadwell, parishioner Tom Gebhard, and Christy Somerville, all Warm Heart International board members, traveled to Southern Malawi to check in on ongoing projects. Tawanda Madovi, a member of the Partnership Committee for the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi, hosted Father Chuck, Christy, and Tom.
Warm Heart International, Inc. is a non-profit born out of the love and generosity of St. David's parishioners. This ministry partners with the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi (ADSM) on projects that include, but are not limited to, increasing access to fresh water, the Mindanti Health Clinic, maternity care, and supporting education for girls.

Warm Heart International - 2025 Girls Education Malawi (GEM) Recipients
The trip included visiting diocesan primary schools and meeting kids like Televa, who received Girls' Education Malawi (GEM) scholarship funds. The GEM Committee partners with the ADSM Partnership Committee to offer scholarships to at-risk girls in the final three years of primary and secondary school. In the past year, scholarships were awarded to 15 girls at the seven Anglican schools. All girls made their grades and were promoted to the next grade, including six girls who graduated primary school. Contributing to the GEM Committee’s initiatives helps to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation of women leaders.

Warm Heart International 2025 Visit to the Mindanti Health Clinic and Maternity Ward
Next, the group traveled to Mindanti and visited the Mindanti Health Clinic. The Rev. Canon Ralph Mponda invited Father Chuck to use the well, created with the support of Warm Heart International, to plant a tree outside the clinic. Then the group toured the Tom Gebhard Maternity Ward, named in honor of Warm Heart International's founder.
