Good Friday Solemn Collects
At our noon and 7 p.m. services, we will use an alternative liturgy for Good Friday that was approved by the General Convention of The Episcopal Church in 2024. This liturgy differs from the Book of Common Prayer Liturgy with alternative scripture readings, a slight variation on the translation of the Gospel Lesson, and an alternative set of solemn collects. This allows the church to address some of the anti-Jewish content in the traditional Good Friday liturgy and invites us into prayer for Jewish people around the world.
These liturgies were created by a task force made up of clergy and parishioners at St. David’s and at the Seminary of the Southwest under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Dan Joselyn-Siemiakoski. They were first approved for use at St. David’s and Seminary of the Southwest by the Bishop of Texas, then presented to the General Convention.
