St. Agnes Guild Knits Prostheses for Breast Cancer Survivors

10Jul

For more than 15 years, St. Agnes Guild has knit and crocheted items for various ministries of St. David’s, including hats and scarves distributed annually to Trinity Center and prayer shawls for parishioners in need of solace.

This summer, the guild is creating Knitted Knockers. These are soft and comfortable knit, or crocheted, prosthetics for breast cancer survivors.  This project is part of a national organization that coordinates with oncology centers as well as with international agencies to knit and distribute the prostheses without charge to people who have had mastectomies.

Like the rest of the world, our parish family has been touched by breast cancer, and this project gives us the opportunity to honor all those who have been affected.

There are two ways you can get involved. We welcome all knitters and crocheters to participate in making knockers. Our own wonderful Anne Ellzey is spearheading this project. She has made it easy by providing the essential instructions and is also coordinating distribution with Texas Oncology.

Don't knit? Donations for supplies are gratefully accepted online. Click "Give" select "Community Engagement," and choose the sub-fund "St Agnes Guild."
