2025 PRIDE Eucharist and Parade

On Saturday, Aug. 23, Austin-area affirming congregations gathered at St. David's for our annual PRIDE Eucharist before the 2025 Austin PRIDE parade.

We welcomed celebrant, the Rev. Lizzie McManus-Dail, Jubilee, Austin, and the Rev. Scott Madison, St. James, Austin. We also welcomed musicians Austin Ryan Flanigan, Resurrection, Austin, and violinist Jared Allison, among many other clergy, seminarians, parishioners, and friends.

Dr. Mona West's sermon invited us to consider the theme of this year's parade, "Silence Equals Death," a slogan that emerged from the early years of the AIDS Crisis. Dr. West shared her memories of activism and community during the AIDS crisis and led a version of a well-known chant for those about to walk together, "Act up, fight back, speak out."

After worship, there was a brief gathering in the Historic Church foyer for everyone to grab their PRIDE swag and get water bottles. At the same time, Fr. Chad McCall, who organized the evening, offered directions to the parade route. Then we walked as a community to San Jacinto, where Father Chuck was waiting to pull the parade float in his truck next to banners for St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Resurrection South Austin, thurifers from Seminary of the Southwest, and more affirming Austin-area communities.

Then we walked together, offering a joyful and affirming welcome to everyone in downtown Austin.
