Stewardship Witness: Terri Orton

21Oct

During the past few years my involvement with St. David’s has enabled me to experience a deeper understanding of the joy and spirituality of participating in stewardship. In previous years, I tended to lose sight of the full breadth of the gifts that stewardship can offer. Back then, when I encountered the practice of stewardship, I focused primarily on the amount my family could afford to commit financially each year to the church. Of course, supporting the church financially is important. However, as I have continued to volunteer for St. David’s ministries my relationships with God and others have strengthened. Whether serving hot meals at Trinity Center or Arbor Terrace, delivering St. David’s altar flowers to parishioners, serving on the Stewardship Committee, or greeting Sunday morning worshipers, I have continued to experience God’s presence and see God’s love at work through our members and community.

As we begin our annual Stewardship Campaign, “Tell Out My Soul”, I continually find myself thinking about the bible passage ‘To whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48). While we are all blessed with different gifts and resources, we are called to be good stewards and to use our gifts to glorify God and help others. I pray for wisdom on how best to share the gifts of time, talent, and treasure that I have been given.

I’ve found that living in stewardship is a joyful experience! My heart and mind have been opened as I witness the many beautiful works of our St. David’s ministries.  I continue to be in awe of the rich gifts of St. David’s parishioners, clergy, and staff as we serve God and love our neighbors.

Stewardship Prayer

written by Lee Parker & Frana Keith

God of heaven and earth,
you have made your handiwork known in your bountiful creation
and in our lives filled with grace.
Help us to remember those who have gone before us,
who generously planted seeds that have matured and now are bearing fruit. Guide us so that we may also be generous in our response to your goodness
and plant seeds that will become deeply rooted, transformed, and fruitful
for today and for future generations.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
