June 2025 Rector Transition Process Update
On Sunday, June 29, Sr. Warden John Crow and vestry member and Profile Committee Chair Melanie Moore presented an update on the Rector Transition Process. Several committees are working diligently to support the vestry in this process: the Profile Committee (developing the Parish Profile), the Celebration Committee (planning and organizing Father Chuck’s retirement celebration), and the Search Committee (vetting and interviewing rector candidates).
The Profile Committee has already begun meeting and planning. This committee will employ multiple methods over the next several months to get input from the congregation about the current state of and future vision for the parish. With that, along with the history of St. David's, they will create the Parish Profile, a text and multi-media piece telling the story of who St. David’s is, where we believe God is leading us, and describing the type of rector who can shepherd us forward into that vision. There will be a parish survey, with the results presented to the parish in mid-to-late October. Following the presentation of the survey results, there will be multiple listening groups to capture additional feedback and context from parishioners to create the Profile.
The Search Committee will not be formed until the Profile is complete—as recommended by the diocese. There will be an application process to select the members of the Search Committee. More details on that will be available as we move forward. Note that all rector candidates will be vetted by the diocese before engaging with the Search Committee.
The Rector Transition Process usually lasts about 12-18 months. For the time period between Father Chuck’s retirement and the arrival of the new rector, there will be either a “locum tenens” rector, often a clergy member currently on staff, or an interim rector can be hired. The vestry will make this decision at the appropriate time.
The Vestry Blog will be updated regularly throughout the Rector Transition Process. A QR code linking to the blog will be available in our worship bulletins.
