Pilgrimage to England and Wales

18Jan

Dear Companions on the Way and friends of St. David’s,

As you may be aware, we are about to embark on our 175th year together as a community of faith. In celebration of this momentous and historical occasion, the clergy, vestry, and the 175th Anniversary committee have put together a pilgrimage to Wales and St. David’s in honor of our namesake. We hope you will take some time to explore the itinerary, which has been thoughtfully put together by a team of experienced travel guides, agents, and experts on pilgrimages in Wales.

What makes this a pilgrimage? A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred site or sites. Travel on a pilgrimage involves two parallel journeys, a physical journey, and a spiritual journey. It requires a deep sense of intention, prayer, reflection, and the desire to be transformed. We will be traveling to several ancient sites that, for centuries, have been connected to both the divine and a multitude of other pilgrims who have walked the same path.

If you come this way,
Taking any route, starts from anywhere,
At any time or at any season,
It would always be the same: You would have to put off
Sense and notion. You are not here to verify,
Instruct yourself, or inform curiosity
Or to carry report. You are here to kneel
Where prayer has been valid….

by T.S. Eliot

Many of our sites will require driving/walking along the coast to and from sacred sites influenced by Celtic spirituality. Sites include visiting holy wells, a Bronze Age hill fort, Celtic chapels, Celtic crosses, a stone circle, and one of the most beautiful medieval cathedrals in Europe in the smallest city in Britain. And this is just one day.

If you are worried about your ability to complete the walks, the trip has been carefully planned to incorporate activities for individuals of all ages, incorporating long walks/hikes for those that are able and shorter ones for those who are unable to do the longer walks with coach rides provided.  There will be worship and prayer interwoven with our visits to sites and opportunities to share as a community over meals. There are also opportunities for those who wish to extend their trip either before or after to be able to do so; our travel company is happy to assist you with that. We hope that our time in Wales will provide time for spiritual growth and transformation.

Please take a look at the itinerary and feel free to contact me should you have any questions concerning the pilgrimage. All the information regarding travel is included on this site, including how you can reserve your spot on the trip. Feel free to invite friends to join us. We are limited to 25 spots, so please reserve your spot today.

Blessings,

The Rev. Angela Cortiñas

Associate Rector, St. David’s Episcopal Church
