Medieval Book Group Reads: "The Lusiads"
Sept. 25-Dec. 18
Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.-Noon, Zoom
This group meets seasonally on Thursday mornings via Zoom to read and discuss classics of medieval literature. Past books have included Beowulf, The Mabinogion, and The Alexiad.
Starting Thursday, Sept. 25, the group will host a facilitated discussion of Luis Vaz de Camões' 1572 novel, "The Lusíadas" or "Os Lusíadas" (Oxford World's Classics paperback, Oxford University Press, 0-19-953996-0). Camoëns is considered Portugal's and the Portuguese language's greatest poet. His mastery of verse has been compared to that of Shakespeare, Milton, Vondel, Homer, Virgil, and Dante.
