On Sunday, Aug. 7, to honor Dr. David Stevens, Director of Music for 32 years, upon his retirement, a 70-voice choir assembled at our 11:15 a.m. service in the Historic Church to offer service music written by David and favorite anthems specially chosen by him.
Father Chuck gave David a fond goodbye message and Eric Mellenbruch, organist & interim choirmaster, offered a surprise gift. St. David’s commissioned a new anthem from composer Kinley Lange. Kinley, a longtime friend and colleague of David’s, wrote not only the music but also the text, ‘God bless those who bring us music,’ for David and the people of St. David’s.
The service was followed by a retirement lunch in Sumners Hall. David led the final Office of Compline service in Historic Church at 8 p.m.
