Advent Events for Children and Families

03Dec

Advent wreath-making is this Sunday and CLARE IS COMING HOME as I write this! I’m so excited, and I know she’s excited to get back to church on Sunday. Besides Clare and candles and wreaths, I have an Advent book for each of your families, and some coloring posters for you to help make the Advent waiting sweeter. So let’s meet in Sumners Hall at 10. I’ll bring some markers for non-crafting types there are luminarias to prep for Posada, too.

Next Sunday, Dec. 7, we will start a special Advent Journey through "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." I know many of you are singing during Lessons and Carols at the 11:15, so we will keep it short and resume the movie Dec. 14. We will have popcorn and crafts and I’ll bring out the Duplos. The kids are loving those right now, for some reason, and I’m here for it.

I also want you to know that we are reviving Women’s Group. We are hosting a Mixer on Dec. 11, 6-7:30. Bring a beverage and a snack to share. All women and people of gender minorities are welcome. I have arranged child care so that everyone who wants to can join us.

Parents' Night Out is Dec. 20 from 5-8 p.m., which is the very same time as the Posada. We are hosting this year, so you will have to choose whether you want some Posada joy or some joyous time to yourself. (No judgement either way) We will watch a Christmas movie and have cocoa. Jammies are welcome, of course. Please bring your own dinner and we will eat together.

Lastly, the costume embellishments are coming along nicely. We have been sewing on Wednesday nights starting at 4, and it’s been really fun. We will continue this through to the Pageant, if you’re into that kind of thing. If your kids would like key roles, or to be narrators, please let me know. They can always pick up a role that night, but if they want a specific job, please plan for Pageant Rehearsal on Dec. 21. There is no formation that morning, so we can meet in Historic at 10 a.m. for a good run through with our A/V team.

I hope you know how beloved you are by your parish. I hope you see the fruits of the spirit in your lives. And I hope you have an incredible holiday season.

Much love, Fr. K
