Hello, wonderful families,
I hope you are feeling bright this Monday afternoon. I know I am. The sunshine is so lovely. I’m glad the last of the freezing cold weather has blown through. As a native Texan, I trust that if we get anymore, it will be a blip and not much more. I hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl and the Olympics starting this weekend. These were beacons of hope for us in the midst of so much news that sparks heavier feelings. I hope it was a balm for you and yours, too.
Believe it or not, we are about to step into Lent. Before we do, we have a special evening service and the the Big Hearts of St. David’s Dinner. Next Sunday, the 14th, is Marathon Sunday. That means we have no morning services. DO NOT attempt to come downtown unless you are running here. We will have one service at 4:30 followed by a celebration of the many volunteers that help us keep the church in good stead. This includes our incredible Sunday School teachers, like Rex & Elaine Hunt, who volunteer every single Sunday to form our youngest disciples. Please join us in thanking them all at this important event.
Just after that, we will slide into Lent with a sugary celebration on Tuesday, the 17th, with our Shrove Tuesday pancake supper! This is a family favorite because we gather in Sumners Hall for pancake relays, pancake flipping contests, and all the syrup you can handle. Chef and his very best volunteers will be flipping pancakes from 5:30-7:30, and you won’t want to miss it.
Then Ash Wednesday will be upon us. We will have services at 7am, noon, and 7pm that day, and we will be doing Ashes to Go on 6th and Congress all day. We pray with people going to and from the capital and make a stop at Trinity to bless the breakfast line. It’s always a great day.
During Lent, we will be emphasizing St. David’s Core Values. This is a time for deep rootedness, as we search for and pray for a new rector. It’s so important that we reflect on who we are so that what we put out there into the world attracts the right leadership for our next chapter. I will add a postcard each week that outlines the Core Values to your kids’ bags and you can take them home to discuss them each week. If you miss a week, don’t worry. I will keep them in there for you to collect the next time you roll through.
From now until Spring Break, we will continue our 10-11 Sunday Children’s Formation downstairs from 10-11. We offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, our Star Wars Journey (now in 116) and our Joyful Journey with Rex & Elaine. If you need more information about these offerings, please reach out and we will find the best fit for your kids. We will have no formation 3/15. Once we return, I will give you an outline to help guide you through Holy Week, which will come up right after we’re back. Of course, all this will culminate in the Butterfly Release on the Labyrinth April 5th.
Hang in there fams. Springtime is such a blur. I will keep holding you from here. Rest assured that we will wrap up our year on with a Mother’s Day Tea Party on May 10th, before the May-hem really get’s into full swing. Also, mark your calendars for VBS the week of June 1st. You won’t want to miss this year's Snowball Mountain Challenge.
I love you and your kids so much, and I really look forward to seeing you all each week. Please let me know if you need any Pastoral Care, or just to talk about the things your family specific cares about. I would love to know more about you.
Much love,
Fr. Kristin
