Spotlight on Texas Ramp Project

25Oct

In late August, the St. David’s Grant Committee for Community Outreach (GCCO) awarded four $10,000 grants to local non-profits. St. David’s Grants Committee awards these grants with funding provided by sales at our Next-to-New Shop. Over the next few weeks, we would like to introduce these recipients to you.

TEXAS RAMP PROJECT
The non-profit started in 2006 (after operating as the Dallas Ramp Project from 1985-2006). They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free wheelchair ramps to low-income older adults and people with disabilities identified by local healthcare providers.

Their vision is that no Texas resident shall lack safe access because of financial limitations. Ramps are built without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, age, or gender. These ramps provide safety, independence, and an improved quality of life to clients and relief to their families and caregivers. They often allow clients to age in place at home, surrounded by those who love and care for them. The lives of qualifying individuals can be completely transformed.

The ramps are built following ADA guidelines and are safe, strong, and durable. They are built exclusively with volunteer labor, keeping costs to a minimum. They recently surpassed 25,000 ramps built (127.919 miles)! St. David's Ramp Build team is always open to new members.

The $10,000 GCCO Grant given to the Texas Ramp Project will be used for the following: $7,000 for materials (seven-eight ramps); $2,000 for one month's rent & utilities for our warehouse; $1,000 for travel, training, project management & central administration.

Austin is a generous community and Texas Ramp Project is another excellent example. The grants given by St. David’s are a significant donation that can make a big impact in moving charities forward with their mission.
