This week the Archbishop of Canterbury announced his resignation due to the way a sexual abuse case was handled during his tenure. The news of the abuse many years ago is heartbreaking. The resignation of the archbishop is also a difficult thing, and we pray for our siblings in the Church of England and the entire Anglican Communion as the process of finding his successor begins.
Below are two links. The first is from Bishop Doyle announcing the resignation and outlining how the diocese works to protect everyone from abuse and exploitation. The second is an extensive article describing how the next Archbishop will be selected.
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with this process, and please pray for the next Archbishop of Canterbury.
Finally, please remember that St. David’s, along with the Diocese of Texas, is committed to creating safe spaces for people to grow in Christ, free from exploitation and abuse. If you have any concerns about this, please contact me, or Fr. Kristin, our Safeguarding God’s People administrator.
Peace,
Fr. Chuck
