Lenten Series: Rule of Life: St. David's Core Values and Formation
Creating a Rule of Life is an ancient church practice with roots in monastic traditions. Rules of Life can be simple or complex, depending on the group or individual forming them. The most famous Rule of Life is the Benedictine Rule, "Ora et Labora," or "Pray and Work." Rules of Life often include elements of prayer, fasting, and generosity as a way to intentionally structure one's life around the life of Christ. The season of Lent is a typical season to create or renew a Rule of Life. During this season of Lent, the parish of St. David's will be considering its published core values as a metric for considering our parish identity and reorienting our personal identities and practices in light of those values. Lent is a time to both set habits aside (like common Lenten practices of giving up sugar, social media, etc.) and to take habits up (like ministering to the poor, praying the daily office, etc.). We will discuss the ways St. David's has set aside and taken up values and practices as a way for church members to extend these values and practices in their own lives in more thoughtful and informed ways.
