Join a St. David’s Small Group!
St. David’s is re-launching its small group ministry, which has been dormant since before COVID. We're revamping the format and beginning this fall 2026. But what is a small group, you ask?
Small groups are led by St. David’s members for the purposes of Fellowship and Faith (and sometimes food!). Groups meet at different times during the week over two formal terms: fall (September–December) and spring (January–May). Groups typically meet 1-2 times per month. Small Groups meet during the week around the city in an effort to unite the parish beyond Sundays, across services, and in accessible locations. Small Groups meet in parishioners’ homes, or in public spots like libraries, coffee shops, or parks. Groups read a book together each semester, something on a topic relating to an aspect of Christian life, and meet to eat, foster fellowship, and grow in faith together around a common text and a shared prayer life.
Small Groups gather to foster relationships. An essential component to being a Christian is simply spending time with other Christians and enjoying the company of believers. Part of being in a Small Group is also to grow in fellowship with God. To that end, each group ends with Compline, a brief and beautiful lay-led service from The Book of Common Prayer. Through prayer, we grow in our fellowship with the Holy Trinity.
Small Groups are also devoted to fostering and encouraging an active and “living” faith. Each Small Group spends time in discussion around a common reading (this could be poetry, a piece of literature, spiritual memoir, theology, etc.). The readings that the groups discuss are there to aid in developing a mature and lively faith. Faith is also encouraged in Small Groups through service projects. Groups can volunteer their time and gifts to serve others in Austin, whether that be through an existing St. David’s ministry like Trinity Streets, Arbor Terrace, and Laundry Love, or something else put on the group’s heart.
Different books will be on offer for groups to read together. Small Groups are encouraged to vary the genres they pull from each new season of meeting to pursue well-rounded spiritual formation. Categories for groups to choose from include: New Publications/Books and Author Titles; Bible/Scripture-Focused titles; Culture and Ethics; Spiritual Memoirs; Prayer and Spirituality; Theology for the Every Day; Poetry and Contemplation/No Reading Ahead of Time Required.
So, why join a small group?
