Former Director of the Zilker Botanical Gardens, Molly Conner Ogorzaly, and her husband, Bob, will provide an update to her 2022 presentation at St. David's on “The Nature and Spirit of Japanese Gardens”. In this talk, she contrasts Japanese Gardens with their Western counterparts, explains how to incorporate Eastern gardening concepts into Texas landscapes, and highlights her own Taniguchi garden as a source of guidance and inspiration.


Molly Conner Ogorzaly

Molly Conner Ogorzaly is an illustrator whose depictions of endangered species adorn the Natural Heritage map, which is displayed in schools and public offices across the state. She co-authored and illustrated four editions of the college textbook "Plants in Our World: Economic Botany," an endeavor that spanned 40 years and spurred global travel. Molly developed the Plantmobile, a traveling science museum, taught botany at Khabele School, and helped create teaching gardens throughout the community. Despite all of that, the highlight of her career was serving as Director of Education at Zilker Botanical Gardens, where in 1996, she was sponsored by our sister city of Oita for a gardening internship in Japan. She has continued her study of Japanese gardens,
