St. David’s Scriptural Foundations is a 2-year certificate program that provides an in-depth exploration of the Old and New Testaments considering their historical contexts, literary characteristics, and relevance for today.
INTRODUCTION TO THE OLD TESTAMENT
Sept. 3-24
This 4-week course is a general overview of the history, geography, and literature of the books of the Old Testament. It is a required course for the completion of the Scriptural Foundations certificate program, but anyone can take the course. Dr. Brent Landau, senior lecturer of Religious Studies at UT, will lead a 4-week general overview of the history, geography, and literature of the books of the Old Testament. This is a required course for the completion of the Scriptural Foundations certificate program, but anyone can take Scriptural Foundation courses.

weekly reading assignments, and attendance tracking for certification.
UPCOMING COURSES
Dr. Stephen Bishop, associate professor of Old Testament at Seminary of the Southwest, will teach the two remaining fall courses of 2025.
The Prophets
Oct. 1-22
This course will focus on the history and literature of the prophetic books of the Old Testament. Emphasis will also be given to the rise of biblical prophecy and the role of the prophet in Ancient Israel.
The Wisdom Books
Oct. 29-Nov. 19
This course will focus on books of the Old Testament that are often called the Wisdom Writings, or Writings. These books include Psalms, Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes. All are welcome to attend.
