A call to feed the hungry sunday

This campaign is a joint initiative of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas (EDOT) and the Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF) to mobilize people of faith to advocate for full funding of SNAP and other essential food programs in Texas. The St. David’s Advocacy Group has been instrumental in shaping this effort.

When St. David's Director of Engagement, Dianne Hardy-Garcia, learned about the cuts to the SNAP program, she began working with the Food Ministry Network on securing resources to support families who depended on SNAP. "After St. David's Advocacy Group voted to make this initiative a work priority, we presented it to our church leadership who provided us with the necessary resources to spearhead the effort. We were also fortunate that Bishop Doyle put out a call simultaneously to gather the support of various Interfaith collaborators."

Every day, millions of Texans rely on food assistance programs to help feed their families. As people of faith, we are called not only to care for our neighbors, but also to support the systems that help them thrive.

On Aug. 2, you are invited to join congregations across Texas for a special Sunday with a shared purpose: a future where no family in Texas has to wonder where their next meal will come from. Faith communities can’t meet this need alone — charitable groups feed about 10% of hungry Texans; SNAP feeds the remaining 90% of hungry Texans.

Here's how you can answer the call:

  1. Attend any of our services Sunday, Aug. 2 at 8, 9, or 11:15 a.m.
  2. Sign the SNAP support card to add your name to the list of supporters.
  3. Share the links to the video and the support card with family and friends.
